A vertical garden serves as main circulation, fresh air buffer, night-cooling chimney and rain-water-filter.

Reading the existing sports facilities and stadium as a defining setting in the urban fabric for itself our new school building adds on to this logic while marking position in the middle of the quarter.

This decision leaves space for an inviting forest-park open to everyone while maximising permeable soil and biodiversity. Two spiral staircases connect the city level with the grande roof-garden and all-weather-field with a spectacular view over the city-scape.

The ground floor is slightly elevated above the sports field for a nice view from the public functions like mensa, cafeteria, multi-functional hall and the teachers’ rooms.

Our schools vertical main circulation serves as main circulation, fresh air buffer, night-cooling chimney and rain-water-filter. Its openess and transparency widen spatially and atmospherically the “Dorfplätze” of each cluster of classrooms.

Sportshall and additional sports facilities are situated below the sports-field with an innovative wooden construction. As daylight-source we set an amphietheater along the curve of the running track. This very specific extra outdoor space is usable for sports, culture, leisure and school events.

Rammed earth walls, a wooden main structure and horizontal semi-transparent photovoltaics as brise-soleil articulate an ambiguous – expressive but calm – look which is enriched with light colors for selected elements.
